Book Club Members Review Books on National Shortlist
07 Jun 2024
The votes are in! Members of the school's KS3 Book Club have delivered their verdict on the books shortlisted in this year's Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing competition.
Students have been reading the eight shortlisted books in their own time and meeting every Wednesday after school to share their thoughts.
After scoring all eight books, the one that came out on top at Ashby was 'Away with Words' by Sophie Cameron.
One student said: "This book was about a really exciting concept I'd never thought of before. It is cleverly written and has great characters. It includes a lot of very relatable themes and topics."
The students' scores have also been submitted to the national competition. The winner of that will be announced later in June.
Book Club has proved to be a big hit with the school's budding literary critics!
One said: "Book Club is great because I've read books from different genres that I would never have chosen otherwise."
Another added: "It's really interesting to talk about books with different people and compare our opinions."
