Phased Return to School - Proposed Dates
25 May 2020
We have been working this week to prepare the site for the possible phased return of students after the half term period. You will have heard in the news that primary schools are creating bubbles where small numbers of students are based in one area with one teacher to minimise movement and contact with others. This is not possible in our secondary environment where students do different subjects and need specialist staff input.
This is adding a high degree of complexity to try to create an environment that allows student and staff movement, whist maintaining social distancing rules. It is important to establish a system that we can continue to manage in September and we feel we have achieved this and will have a system that could operate long term.
There is still a lot of debate regarding the safety of students returning to school. Information is being published later today and the government will make an announcement on 28th May. Key to their ambitions for students to return is that the 5 conditions they had set are met and the track and trace system is in place.
I will publish the detailed plans to you as soon as we have confirmation from the DfE to proceed but to give you some guidance we are working to the following time scales.
Week beginning 1st June, all students will be set home study as of now and the school will make contact to establish the different groups that will be set up on Microsoft Teams.
Week beginning 8th June, all students will be set home study, but for Year 10 an hour per subject will be timetabled to do through Teams. For Year 12 this will be 2 hours per subject. The software is free to download to laptop, tablet or phone and students need to login with their normal school login details. We will be sending detailed instructions out later.
Week beginning 15th June, Start to phase Year 10 back into school. Year 12 will continue with home study supported with teams sessions.
Week beginning 22nd June, as week above.
Week beginning 29th June, Year 10 have home study supported with teams sessions. Year 12 are in school.
Week beginning 6th July, as week above.
I must stress these are our provisional plans but will be subject to changing government advice. I will send out detailed information after half term as there will be strict conditions for all students to follow regarding keeping apart, following new one way systems and maintaining rigorous hygiene.
Allowing your child to return to school is parental choice and I will be asking you on June 1st what your intentions are to help us with our planning.
I would like to thank you for your continued support, I have received many very positive emails from parents that are really appreciated and I hope where there have been issues they have been addressed.
Have a good break.
