Covid Update - Masks, Buses, Split Lunch, Access to Site
06 Nov 2020
We have now entered the second national lockdown. The School is open as normal but we have changed some procedures following new guidance. Please ensure you discuss these with your son or daughter this weekend as they will come into force from Monday.
We introduced masks at the start of the term but following government guidance their use is now compulsory in the following situations:
- Any movement inside the school between lessons.
- Anytime inside the building pre-school, break or lunch.
The only time students can remove their masks is at break and lunch when they sit down and are eating. Once they have finished, they must replace their mask.
Students do not need to wear masks in classrooms once they are sitting down, but they do need to enter and leave with them on.
We would advise they wear them outside but that is not compulsory.
We will now take strong action, including exclusion, against any student who does not follow this clear guidance to keep everyone safe.
Masks are compulsory on buses for all our students and have been since June. We have had reports that some students are removing their masks once the buses have driven away from the school. If this happens and these students are identified they will receive a bus ban.
From next Monday (9 November), we are introducing a split lunch system. Now the weather is getting colder, there are too many students inside the dining halls. Students in Years 11,12 and 13 will be familiar with this system from last year and it will follow the same pattern. For students in Year 10, the lunch time will be determined by the subject they have during period 4. There is an extended form time on Monday to allow this to be explained to them.
With the reduced numbers, there will be enough seats in the dining halls for every student. For Year 10, we have also had a large marquee assembled so they have dry cover outside as well.
Access to School Site
The site now has full security fencing in place. The school day for staff starts at 8.30 and finishes at 3.15. During this period, staff are on site and on duty. We do appreciate that there are circumstances where a child may have to arrive earlier than this and we would rather they were inside the school grounds rather than waiting outside. The school gates are unlocked from 8.15 but, from then until 8.30, there is only passive supervision as some staff will be on site but they are not on duty. If your child does arrive early, they must stay under the covered areas and they remain your responsibility. At the close of the day, no student should remain beyond 3.15 unless they are taking part in an organised activity or they have made arrangements with a member of staff who will take responsibility for them.
I would like to thank the large majority of students who are following the rules and keeping the transmission rate low in this area. Could I please remind you if your child has any symptoms of coronavirus you must inform us immediately and must not send them into school.
